Fourth Thursday Film Night: Seraphine
The Colorado Artists Guild and EventGallery 910Arts host the showing of “Seraphine,” a French-language art film dramatizing the life of the humble cleaning woman with a secret talent discovered by a Paris art collector in the period just before World War I. The award-winning 2008 French-Belgian production starts at 7:00 p.m. in the gallery at 910 Santa Fe Drive. Fred Lunger, President of the Colorado Artists Guild, will introduce the film.
The free showing (a $5 contribution is suggested) complements the 16th Annual Artists of Colorado Exhibition on display in the EventGallery 910Arts through October 29.
Directed by Martin Provost and written by Marc Abdelnour and Provost, “Seraphine” stars Yoldande Moreau as the housekeeper-turned-artist, Seraphine Louis. The film won seven César Awards in the 2009 annual French film competition, including best film and best actress. Dramatizing the life of a simple housekeeper whose brilliantly colorful canvases can be found in some of the most famous galleries in the world, the film also won awards for best screenplay, best photography, best music, best décor and best costumes.
